Boots on the Ground

Roncevilles has been offering peregrinos (pilgrims) haven since at least the eleventh century. The monastery even has a bell to guide pilgrims coming over the mountain pass from St. Jean de Port in France who have lost the path because of snow or fog. Happily my pilgrimage started today just five kilometers "upstream" from Roncevilles, well below the mountain pass. This stroll. was a mere aperitif, a few kilometers to check for major system defects. None found. So tomorrow, after a tasty dinner of fresh trout and salal at the monastery hostal dining room tonight, will be a full day's walk to Zubiri . At last.
